Global Hotkeys
Every core VeilWin action supports global hotkeys — they work in any app, no need to switch to VeilWin first.
Defaults
| Action | macOS | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Toggle dimming | ⌃⌥⌘H | Ctrl+Alt+Super+H |
| Temporarily reveal desktop (hold) | Fn (Globe key) | Ctrl+Alt |
Bindable actions
Under Settings → Hotkeys you can view, modify and add bindings:
- Toggle dimming: on/off
- Intensity up / down: fine-tune the intensity (unbound by default)
- Temporarily reveal desktop: hold a modifier to restore the display, release to resume dimming
- Activate profile: switch profiles with one key (one binding per profile)
Modify and add
- Open Settings → Hotkeys
- Find the action, click its current binding and press a new combination
- Save — it takes effect immediately
Conflict handling
- Conflicts with other bindings or system shortcuts are flagged immediately
- You must resolve conflicting items before saving
- No restart needed after changes
Typical uses
- ⌃⌥⌘H toggles dimming — on while coding, off when you step away
- Hold Fn/Ctrl+Alt for a quick look at the desktop, release to return to focus
- Bind a key to the “Night eye care” profile and switch with one press before bed
Next steps
- Eye-care automation — no hotkey needed at all
- Profiles — bind switching keys to profiles
